Rocking chairs for indoors. All chairs are made using green woodwork techniques of 'shrinking mortice and tennon' joints, so that only the arms are glued into place and the rest of the joints hold by natural shrinking of green wood (legs) onto dry wood (spindles and rails). All chairs go through a carefully controlled drying process after construction, so please bear this in mind when ordering this kind of chair. I do keep a certain stock of these chairs for this reason.

The pice of drift wood which forms the legs and arms of this bench was found at Millook beach near Bude in Cornwall. I cut the lengths in half and smoothed them down to expose the beautiful grain. The rest of the bench is made up of oak heartwood planks and struts from oak cut from a hedge in pyworthy. All the fixings are stainless steel and they are all capped with oak pegs. The whole bench is treated with exterior grade Osmo oil to ensure this bench remains as a family heirloom!
This section of driftwood is a rootball and the grain ripples and swirls like the sea, in which it has floated for who knows how long before it was washed up on Millook beach near Bude in Cornwall, where I was lucky enough to find it.

How this chair looks in the garden
Heather commisioned me to create a bench made of oak around this wonderful oak tree in her garden. After some searching I found some trunks of the right curvature, split them with axe and wedges, then hewed them with an axe, and smoothed them with a drawknife. they are pinned with oak pegs to oak logs each sunk 12" or more in the ground, so this bench is here to stay!
Thanks for your help with the design Heather, I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

The shape is created from split ash wood in a willow frame, connected with twists of wire. The exact shape of this piece is always unique and always symmetrical due to the nature of using split halves of logs in its construction. Free standing designs are possible on enquiry
